New Fiat Punto Rendering

FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobile) is all set to enter into a strategic partnership with Groupe PSA. The duo is expected to co-develop cars and will share each other platforms, technologies and engines. With the alliance in making, European media reports that the Fiat Punto hatchback could be reborn.

Recently, FCA CEO Mike Manley said that Fiat’s strategy for compact vehicles in the European market is to focus on the segment B rather than segment A. The report further claims that the next-gen Fiat Punto can be reborn by taking advantage of the best of Fiat Argo and the new Open Corsa platform.

It is rumoured that the Fiat Punto will make a comeback in the European market. Adding to it, the company will discontinue the popular Panda nameplate. The new alliance will give Fiat access to the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa CMP platform. It also helps the Italian brand to address the issues related to high-cost of development. In a recent interview, Manley said, “In the very near future, you’ll see us focusing more on this larger volume and wider margin segment, and this will involve a change in the sub-compact segment.”

Fiat Chrysler Automobile is yet to make an official announcement on the same. With access to the CMF platform, the Italian brand won’t have any problem in the development of the next-gen Punto. This platform is also compatible with electric drivetrains, and Fiat could also introduce the pure electric Punto in the future.
