New Citroen Small SUV Tested Alongside Baleno, Altroz

Citroen is all set to begin its Indian operations with the C5 Aircross SUV that’s slated to launch in March, 2021. The French carmaker will also foray into the mini SUV space with a new model (codenamed – Citroen CC21) that was recently spotted testing alongside its Maruti Baleno and Tata Altroz in Tamil Nadu.

While the new Citroen small SUV will lock horns against the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the upcoming Tata HBX, its dimensions and equipment level are likely to be similar to the Baleno and Altroz premium hatchbacks.

The spy pictures reveal that the production-ready model will carry SUV-ish stance with high ground clearance. The heavily camouflaged test mule managed to cover its design details. Though, the model is likely to derive some of its design bits from the global-spec Citroen C3 Aircross. It might feature the signature two-part lighting and a sleek grille.

As of now, interior details are scanty. Though, the spy pictures confirm that the Citroen CC21 will feature a floating touchscreen infotainment system integrated on the centre console. It’s likely to support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The micro crossover might also be offered with features connected car technology, climate control, keyless entry, cruise control and more.

It would be quite early to comment on its engine. Speculations are on rife that the new Citroen small SUV might be offered with a flex-fuel system featuring a 1.2L petrol motor with ethanol blends. The ethanol ratio might start from 27% and it could be entirely biofuel. If it happens, the upcoming Citroen CC21 will be India’s first small SUV to offer flexi-fuel powertrain. The carmaker might also bring in its electric version that’s reported to be priced around Rs 8 lakh.

The French carmaker is also working on a subcompact SUV (codenamed – Citroen CC24) that will take on the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue and Maruti Vitara Brezza. The model is likely to hit Indian shores sometime in 2022, which will be followed by a new Citroen compact sedan in 2023.
