We informed you earlier that Citroen will start rolling out locally developed cars in India from the second half of 2021. The first model to be launched will be a sub-4 meter SUV, which has already been caught testing in India. Codenamed Citroen CC21, the new SUV has now been caught testing in Brazil.
The new model will be the brand’s new city car and could be branded as the new C3 in Brazil. In India, the Citroen CC21 will be positioned against the likes of the Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and the Tata HBX. The entry-level car will also challenge the Mahindra KUV100 NXT, Maruti Ignis and other B-segment hatchbacks including the Maruti Swift and the Hyundai Grand i10.
The new Citroen CC21 small SUV will be based on a simplified version of the Groupe PSA’s CMP (Common Modular Platform), which also underpins the Peugeot 208 hatchback. The platform will be simplified to accommodate new products for developing markets such as India and Brazil.
The spotted model was heavily camouflaged; however, the images confirm that it will share styling cues from the bigger Citroen cars including the C3 Aircross and the C5 Aircross. The SUV has the boxy design, which hints that the rear occupants will have roomy cabin with good headroom space.
The entry-level SUV is expected to be equipped with modern day features like a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, keyless entry, climate control, and cruise control. The small SUV is also expected to feature connected car technology.
Citroen CC21 Flex-Fuel System
The Citroen CC21 micro SUV is reportedly to feature a flex-fuel system. This system is compatible to feature a 1.2-litre petrol engine with ethanol blends starting from 27% to entirely on the biofuel. The company believes that the small SUV could give Citroen a first-mover advantage in the flexi-fuel space in India.
New Citroen CC24 Compact SUV
The company is also working on an all-new compact SUV, codenamed CC24, which will be positioned above the CC21. The new SUV will be positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Hyundai Venue. It is rumoured to be launched in 2022, which will be followed by a compact sedan in 2023.
Citroen CC21 Electric SUV
Previous reports suggest that the Citroen is also developing a new city electric car based on the CC21 mini SUV. The new electric car is reportedly to be priced around Rs 8 lakh. It will be positioned against the upcoming Renault Kwid electric, Hyundai smart city electric, Mahindra e-KUV100 and the Tata HBX based electric mini SUV.
