The new-generation Suzuki Alto was recently leaked online ahead of its global debut in January 2022. One must note that the leaked model is the Japan-spec and its Indian counterpart will be completely different. The India-spec new 2022 Maruti Alto will carry more angular stance instead of the upright pillars and a flat roofline. The automaker has already started testing the model in the country. Compared to the current generation, the new one appears longer, wider and taller.
Similar to the new Celerio, the new Maruti Alto 2022 will switch to the Heartect platform from its existing architecture. It will make the hatchback lighter and safer than before. The new model will feature a new pronounced grille, newly-designed sweptback headlamps, C-shaped fog lamp assembly and sculpted hood at the front end. The higher trims could be exclusively offered with the LED DRLs.
Significant changes will also be made inside the cabin. The new 2022 Maruti Alto is likely to come with a new touchscreen infotainment system with the latest smartphone connectivity, a semi digital instrument cluster, new upholstery, automatic AC unit and a new interior theme. Most of the features will be carried forward from the current model. On the safety front, the new Alto will have dual airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution), seat belt reminder, speed alert and rear parking sensors as standard fitments.
While there is no official word on its engine details, the new Maruti Alto 2022 is expected to come with the new 1.0L, 3-cylinder K10 Dualjet petrol engine with Idle Start/Stop system. It’s the same powertrain that does duty in the new-generation Celerio. The hatchback model lineup will continue to be offered with the manual and AMT gearbox options. The new Alto might also get a CNG variant.
