Maruti Suzuki has finally rolled out the second-generation Celerio hatchback that comes at a staring price of Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The 2021 Maruti Celerio model lineup comes in four trims – LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZXi+ and 6 monotone colour options – Silky Silver, Caffeine Brown, Fire Red (new), Arctic White, Speedy Blue (new) and Glistering Grey.
With the generation change, the Celerio receives a new, more powerful 1.0L K10C, 3-cylinder Dualjet petrol engine boosted with the dual VVT and first-in-segment Idle start-stop technology. Its power and torque outputs stand at 65.7bhp and 89Nm respectively. The new Celerio is the first Maruti Suzuki car to feature the new-generation K-Series engine that’s benefited wit the cooled EGR, integrated exhaust manifold and auto tensioner. For performing transmission duties, the hatchback has a 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox.

The automaker claims that the new Maruti Celerio 2021 is the most fuel efficient petrol car in the country. Its VXi AMT variant offers a claimed mileage of 26.68kmpl and ZXi and ZXi AMT variants promise 26kmpl. While the ZXi manual version returns fuel economy of 24.97kmpl, the LXi, VXi and ZXi manual models deliver 25.23kmpl. One must note that these figures are rated by Jato dynamics not ARAI certified. Compared to old model, the new 2021 Maruti Celerio is wider and more spacious. It also has a longer wheelbase, extended shoulder room and legroom. Now, the hatchback measures 3695mm in length, 1655mm in width and 1555mm in height. It sits on 2435mm long wheelbase and offers a ground clearance of 170mm. Its fuel tank capacity stands at 32-litres. The new Celerio provides a boot space of 313-litres.
Unlike the old model that carries tall-boy stance, the new Maruti Celerio 2021 has more angular design. Upfront, it features a flattish oval grille with honeycomb patter, newly-designed fog lamp assembly, triangular headlamps connected via a chrome strip, revised bumper with contrast black bits and a more upright nose. Feature-wise, the new Celerio has more goodies to offer. The list of features includes a 7-inch Smartplay Studio infotainment system with snartphone navigation (for higher ZXi and ZXi+ trims only), engine start/stop button, steering mounted controls, gearshift indicator, electrically adjustable and electrically foldable ORVMs, keyless entry, rear defogger, hill hold assist (for VXi, ZXi, ZXI+ AMT variants only), etc. The hatchback offers over 12 safety features including ABS with EBD and brake assist, dual airbags and more. It complies with all Indian safety standards including frontal offset, side crash and pedestrian protection.
