November 2, 2016 – The new Mitsubishi Montero has been rolled out in India at Rs 71.06 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The 2016 model year is the third global facelift of the car that is initially brought with the same 3.2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine. Though, this powertrain has been tuned for achieving performance and smooth torque delivery.
Mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox, the oil burner delivers 192bhp and 441Nm. The SUV is being brought in India via CBU (completely built unit) route. As a reminder, Mitsubishi India had discontinued the Montero four years back due to its poor sales and growing competition.

Designed around ‘Stylish & Comfortable Off-road SUV” concept, the Mitsubishi Montero 2016 carries all attributes of the luxurious Pajero badge. Upfront, the car features Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield, LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights and an automatic high beam controlled by a camera. Features like high belt line, sporty alloy wheels and hard upper body creases further enhance its road presence. The rear is dominated by unique LED tail-lamps design. The ground clearance of the car has been trimmed down by 10mm, while its weight increased up to 25kgs.

The interior of the 2016 Montero is as sporty and dynamic as its exterior. The car gets a high T-shaped centre console with piano black inserts and silver finishes. The SUV is loaded with luxurious bells and whistles such as Rockford Acoustic Design entertainment system, dual zone climate control, steering cruise control and audio control, leather upholstery, auto high beam controller, detachable 3rd row seat, power assisted seats (driver & passenger), etc.
For safety purpose, there is an electric parking brake (EPB) system that trims down the gearbox tunnel making extra knee room for passengers. Powering the SUV is the same 3.2 litre, 16-valve, DOHC, direct injection, diesel engine, which is more refined and efficient than before. This power unit produces a peak power of 192hp at 3,800 rpm, and 441Nm of torque at 2,000rpm. Transmission duties are performed by a 5-speed automatic gearbox. The SUV offers four driveline modes – 2WD High (2-H), 4WD High (4-H), 4WD High with locked center differential (4-HLc), and 4WD low with locked center differential (4-LLc). Save for the 4-LLc mode, all modes can be changed while driving.
