MG Hector, ZS EV Records Highest Ever Monthly Sales In March 2021

MG Motor India has announced that its Hector and ZS EV SUVs have registered their highest-ever sales in March 2021. The carmaker managed to sell a total of 5,528 units as against 1,518 units in the same month previous year. It accounted a sales growth of 264 percent. It’s highest ever monthly sales figures achieved by the British carmaker since its arrival in the country. The 2021 MG Hector received over 6,000 bookings last month.

The company has also revealed that it has a waiting period of up to 2-3 months for most of the models. Currently, the carmaker is dealing with the supply chain disruption caused due to global shortage of semiconductor chips and the second wave of Covid. As a preventive measure, the British carmaker might have a few NPDs (no production days) in the month of April.

The company introduced the 2021 MG Hector and Hector Plus earlier this year. Both SUVs receive minor cosmetic changes and feature upgrades over the old models. No changes have been made to their powertrains. The new Hector and Hector Plus come with the 143hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol with mild-hybrid tech and 170hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine options. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard across the range. The non-hybrid turbo-petrol is exclusively offered with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

In February 2021, MG rolled out the updated ZS EV SUV at a starting price of Rs 20.99 lakh. One of the biggest changes comes in the form of a new 44.5kWh ‘Hi-tech’ battery pack claimed to offer a range of 419km (iCAT). Its old model with a 44.5kWh battery pack delivers an electric range of 340km (ARAI). The electric motor, however, continue to generate a top power of 143hp and 353Nm of torque. The SUV’s ground clearance has also been increased to 177mm.
