Tata, Mahindra Sales March 2021; Record Over 400% Growth

The two major Indian automobile manufacturers, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra registered positive sales growth in March 2021. Tata Motors managed to sell 29,654 units as against 23,978 units of the same month last year. It records sales growth of 422.45 percent. Interestingly, it’s the highest sales numbers recorded by the home-grown carmaker in 9 years. Models such as the new-launched Tata Safari, Harrier, Nexon, Tiago and Altroz are among the top sales contributors.

Tata has also revealed that the company’s PV (passenger vehicle) business posted its highest ever annual sales in 8 years in FY21. In the electric vehicle space, the carmaker retailed 4,219 units in FY21 that’s three times higher than FY20. The company also registered its highest ever monthly and quarterly sales of 705 EVs and 1,711 EVs in March 21 and Q4 FY21. The Tata Nexon achieved 4,000 sales milestone since its launch in January 2020.

Mahindra & Mahindra recorded a total sales of 16,700 units in March 2021 opposed to 338 units of the same month previous year. The carmaker sold 16,643 units of the Utility Vehicles (including Thar, XUV500, Scorpio, XUV300, Bolero, KUV100) and 57 units of cars and vans. The carmaker says that it has been witnessing high demand across its SUV range. In fact, the Mahindra Bolero recorded its highest sales in this fiscal year and despite supply constraints the company has been able to increase Boler’s production significantly during the month. Mahindra believes that supply challenges will remain for the next two to three months.

2020 Mahindra Scorpio Upgrade

In the Farm Equipment Sector (FES), Mahindra & Mahindra sold a total of 29,817 units of tractors as against 13,418 units of March 2020. It recorded a growth of 122%. A total of 1,153 Mahindra tractors were exported last month.
