Maruti To Launch CNG Variants Of Swift, Dzire, Vitara Brezza In 2021

While most of the automakers are planning to introduce electric vehicles, Maruti Suzuki is betting big on CNG cars to drive sales for the next few year. This does not mean that MSIL is not working on EVs; Suzuki and Toyota JV is working on affordable electric cars for the Indian market. The first Maruti Suzuki electric vehicle will be launched by 2025.

Maruti Suzuki believes that the CNG could prove to be a viable alternative to the petrol or diesel powered cars. The company is already selling multiple CNG cars like Alto, S-Presso, WagonR, Celerio, Eeco and Ertiga. Adding to it, MSIL is ready to launch 3 new CNG-powered vehicles to be launched before the end of this year.

Maruti Suzuki is testing the CNG versions of the Swift and Dzire subcompact sedan on the Indian roads. The new models will feature the 1.2-litre DualJet K12C petrol engine with a factory-fitted CNG kit. The gasoline engine will produce a top power output of 82bhp and 113Nm of torque. While running in CNG mode, the power and torque figures will drop by 11bhp and 18Nm respectively. The CNG will produce 70bhp of power at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 95Nm at 4,000rpm.

The leaked document reveals that the Brezza CNG variant will offer 91bhp of power and 122Nm of torque. The regular model is powered by a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that produces 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. It will be paired to a 5-speed gearbox. Like the Ertiga CNG, it will come with dual interdependent ECUs and intelligent injection system.
