Maruti Swift CNG, Dzire CNG Engine Details Out; Launch Soon

Maruti Suzuki is ready to launch CNG versions of its highly popular cars – Swift hatchback and Dzire subcompact sedan. Both models have been spotted testing with an emission kit fitted at the rear. While their official launch details are yet to be announced, the 2021 Maruti Swift CNG and Dzire CNG are likely to hit roads in coming months. As per the leaked document, the Maruti Swift CNG and Dzire CNG will feature a 1.2L Dualjet K12C petrol engine with a CNG kit. The gasoline unit makes a top power of 81bhp and 113Nm of torque. In CNG mode, the power and torque figures will drop by 11bhp and 18Nm respectively. The 2021 Maruti Swift CNG and Dzire CNG will offer power worth 70bhp at 6,000rpm and 95Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. No other changes will be made to the vehicles.

In other updates, the Indo-Japanese carmaker is working on the new-generation Maruti Swift that’s reported to launch sometime in 2024. Though, the hatchback will make global debut in 2022. The all-new Swift is likely to ditch the existing platform for the modified Heartect architecture. Details of the new model are still under the wraps. It’s likely to receive significant changes inside and out. Reports suggest that the new 2022 Maruti Swift might get connected car technology, a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a head-up display and new seat upholstery.

Under the hood, the 2022 Maruti Swfit could feature the stronger 48V hybrid technology replacing the existing 12V mild hybrid system. The 1.2L K12 Dualjet petrol and the upcoming CNG powertrain will also be on offer. In global markets, the hatchback’s new-generation model will be offered with the 1.2L petrol hybrid and 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine options.
