We have been constantly informing you about Maruti Suzuki plans for the Indian market. The company will launch two new cars this year including the YRA premium hatchback and the S-Cross SX4 crossover. With the growing demand for the compact SUVs, the country’s largest carmaker is also aiming to launch a sub-4 metre SUV to rival against the Ford EcoSport and upcoming cars from Tata Motors, Nissan and Mahindra. MSI has started testing the sub-4 metre SUV, which will be based on a modified Swift platform. The YBA compact SUV will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options.
The petrol version is likely to get the 1.4-litre K14B petrol unit that also powers the Ertiga MPV, and is capable of producing 95PS of power and 130Nm of torque. The oil burner will be the tried & tested 1.3-litre multi-jet unit that is good for 90PS of power and 200Nm of torque.
The test vehicle spotted was completely camouflaged, but the looks of the car seems inspired by the Suzuki iV-4 concept unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, The car features projector type horizontal headlamps with integrated daytime running lights, chrome grille, faux skid plate and circular fog lamps. It has a sweptback roofline and 10-spoke star-shaped alloy wheels.
It is expected that the Suzuki YBA compact SUV will be unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo and the launch will take place in Feb-March. The compact SUV is likely to be priced in the range of Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh.
