Maruti Suzuki XL5 (Premium WagonR) – What We Know So Far

We have reported earlier that Maruti Suzuki is working on a premium version of the WagonR hatchback. Called the Maruti Suzuki XL5, the model has been spotted testing multiple times in the country. Here’s everything we know about the premium WagonR so far.

The new Maruti XL5 will be retailed via the company’s premium Nexa dealerships. It will be the sixth addition to the Nexa range. Currently, it includes Ignis compact car, Baleno hatchback, Ciaz mid-size sedan, S-Cross crossover and XL6 MPV.

The spy pictures confirm that the XL5 will carry upright stance similar to the standard WagonR. In fact, its rear profile will look exactly similar to its donor sibling. The split headlamps with LED DRLs will further mark a distinction. Similar to the XL6 premium MPV, the premium version of the WagonR might get LED taillamps. The Nexa Blue colour scheme will be exclusively offered on the XL5 premium hatchback.

As of now, interior details of the Maruti XL5 are under the wraps. Though, it’s likely to share resemblance to the standard WagonR. The carmaker might introduce new trim, seat upholstery and extra features on the model lineup.

We expect it to be packed with features such as a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, tilt adjustable steering, keyless entry, power windows, multiple airbags, central locking system, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and speed alert system. On the engine front, the premium version of the WagonR is likely to get the same BS6-compliant 1.2L, 4-cylinder K-Series engine that does duty in the standard model. The motor pushes out a peak power of 77bhp against 113Nm of torque. Similar to the WagonR, the Maruti Suzuki XL5 is likely to come with a 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox option.
