Maruti Suzuki To Launch 3 New EVs – SUV, MPV, Hatchback

Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch 8 new cars and SUVs in the country before the end of 2026. The company will enter the electric vehicle segment this year; however, it will continue to offer ICE vehicles. Out of these 8 new models, 3 will be all-electric vehicles in different segments. If media reports are to be believed, MSIL will introduce a new electric SUV, an entry-level electric hatchback and an all-new 3-row electric MPV in India.

The first Maruti electric vehicle in our market will be a mid-sized SUV based on the eVX concept that debuted at the 2023 Auto Expo. Internally codenamed YY8, the new Maruti Suzuki eVX is scheduled to be introduced during festive season around September-October 2024. This electric SUV will rival the likes of the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and the Tata Curvv EV. The new EV will be based on an all-new born-electric platform, which is jointly developed by Suzuki and Toyota.

Toyota will also launch its own version of this electric SUV, which recently unveiled as the Urban SUV Concept. The electric SUV is likely to be offered with two battery pack options – a 48kWh and a 60kWh with later claims to offer a range of up to 550kms on a single charge. To be manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat based plant, the new electric SUV will also be exported to Japan and Europe.

Maruti Suzuki will introduce an all-new electric MPV in the country in the second half of 2026, most probably in September. Internally codenamed YMC, the new EV will be based on the same bespoke platform that underpins the eVX. This platform is versatile enough to accommodate different body styles and battery pack options. This 3-row MPV is likely to share most of the components and battery options with the eVX.

Maruti Suzuki is also developing an entry-level electric hatchback, which will be based on a bespoke electric platform (K-ev). This could be the production version of the eWX concept that debuted at the Japan Mobility Show. The report claims that the electric hatchback won’t be introduced in our market before 2026-27. MSIL is looking to heavily localise the K-ev platform to achieve competitive pricing for the hatchback. It will be positioned against the Tata Tiago EV.
