Maruti eVX With High-Level Of Localisation – Aggressive Pricing On Cards

Maruti Suzuki will finally enter the electric vehicle space with an all-new electric SUV, which will be based on the eVX concept. The company had showcased the Maruti eVX electric SUV concept at the 2023 Auto Expo. The production version of the electric SUV is expected to be launched sometime in late 2024, most probably around September-October 2024.

The new Maruti eVX electric SUV will be locally developed at Suzuki’s Gujarat based manufacturing plant. In fact, the electric SUV will also be exported to several international markets including Europe. The electric SUV is jointly developed by Suzuki and Toyota, and the later will also have its own version. The Toyota’s version of the electric SUV will go on sale in our market in 2025.

The Maruti eVX electric SUV will come with an aggressive price tag. The electric SUV will come with a high amount of localised content including batteries and drivetrain. Speaking to AutoCar Professional, Rahul Bharti, executive director of Corporate Affairs at Maruti Suzuki confirms that the new SUV will be locally made and will have a localised battery and motor. MSIL will also export the model from India.

This electric SUV will be based on an all-new skateboard platform, which will also underpin multiple Suzuki and Toyota electric vehicles. It is reported that the electric vehicle will be developed on a new platform, internally known as 27PL, which will be derived from Toyota’s 40PL electric skateboard architecture.

Maruti Suzuki eVX electric SUV concept measures 4.3 meters in length, 1.8 meters in width and 1.6 meters in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.7 meters. Suzuki is already manufacturing batteries for hybrid vehicles at its Gujarat based facility. This facility is also expected to build batteries for EVs too.

This Grand Vitara-sized electric SUV will rival the likes of the Mahindra XUV400, MG ZS EV and the upcoming EVs from Hyundai and Kia. The company aims to achieve aggressive pricing for its born EV SUV. The SUV could also challenge the Tata Nexon EV, which is based on a modified combustion engine platform.
