Maruti Suzuki Flex Fuel, CNG, Electric Cars – Launch Details

Maruti Suzuki had discontinued all of its diesel vehicles after the implementation of the BS6 emission norms in April 2020. As of now, the company has no plan to re-introduced diesel engines. Though, the automaker has plans to develop flex fuel vehicles for the future as government will mandate ‘flex-fuel’ vehicles in coming months. In September 2021, Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari announced that the government will soon issue an order to car manufacturers and mandate flex engine norms.

Speaking at Maruti Suzuki’s results call, Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. has revealed that the company is working on electric vehicles along with the ethanol-powered vehicles. At present, the Indo-Japanese automaker is studying flex fuel technology and it will time. Talking about the flex-fuel engine, it’s an internal combustion motor that can work on gasoline and blend of gasoline and ethanol up to 83 percent. In order to make it work, the engine’s components such as fuel injection technology, ECM (engine control module) and fuel pump have been calibrated.

Maruti Suzuki CNG Cars Launch Details

The automaker is ready to launch CNG variants of its popular vehicles including the Vitara Brezza, Swift and Dzire. While there is no official word on their launch timeline, the models are reported to arrive in 2021. The Maruti Swift and Dzire CNG will come with the 1.2L Dualjet K12C petrol engine and a CNG kit. It will deliver power worth 70bhp and 95Nm of torque, which is slightly less than the gasoline motor. The Maruti Vitara Brezza CNG will use the 1.5L K15B petrol motor with a factory-fitted CNG kit. Its power and torque figures will stand at 91bhp and 122Nm respectively.

Maruti Suzuki Electric Cars Launch Details

The Indo-Japanese automaker has no immediate plan to enter into the electric vehicle (EV) segment. If reports are to be believed, the first Maruti electric car will arrive by fiscal year 2025. It could be based on the WagonR hatchback featuring 72V electric drive with a 10-25kWh lithium-ion battery. The new Maruti EV is expected to deliver a range of up to 180km on a full charge.
