India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki is testing the electric version of the WagonR tall-boy hatchback, which has been spotted numerous times. It was speculated that the electric WagonR will be launched before the end of 2021; however, MSIL confirmed that there are no immediate plans to launch the Wagon R EV.
While MG Motors, Hyundai, Tata Motors and Mahindra are selling electric vehicles, Maruti Suzuki doesn’t have any EV offering in the market. A new media report claims that Suzuki will be introducing its first mass market all-electric vehicle by financial year 2025. It will first launch in India, which will be followed by Europe and Japan. The report further claims that the new Suzuki EV could be priced around $13,700, which is approximately Rs 10 lakhs.
Maruti Suzuki still holds a significant share when it comes to budget-friendly car segment. With electric vehicles to be priced around Rs 10 lakhs, Maruti Suzuki would have to work really hard to bring customers. The company would be aiming to offer higher range, space and value for money quotient.
