It’s a no secret that the Japanese automaker is working on 5-door version of the Jimny off-road SUV. According to a fresh Japanese media report, the 5-door Suzuki Jimny will make global debut next year. Its overall length will measure around 3850mm, thus making it 300mm longer than the 3-door version. In fact, the new Jimny will be 100 heavier with a kerb weight of 1190kgs. Its ground clearance will be similar to the 3-door model – i.e. 210mm. The overall width and height stand at 1645mm and 1730mm respectively.
Design and styling of the 5-door Jimny will similar to the 3-door version. Reports suggest that it might carry a differently designed front grille featuring a single horizontal slat instead of the five slat vertical pattern. Interior details of the model are still under the wraps. Though, it’s likely to come with the updated touchscreen infotainment system with latest smartphone connectivity and new seat upholstery. It will have forward facing seats. The longer wheelbase and stretched rear section will ensure enough cabin space for 5 adult occupants.
Globally, the 5-door Suzuki Jimny is reported to be offered with a turbocharged petrol engine boosted with the mild hybrid system. It could be the 1.4L turbo petrol Boosterjet with 48V mild hybrid technology. In select markets, the off-road SUV will be made available with a 1.5L K15B petrol engine delivering power close to 102bhp. It could also get the more powerful and stronger version of the SHVS hybrid tech.
Transmissions on offer might include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic. The 5-seater Jimny will come with 4WD (four-wheel drive) and FWD (front-wheel drive) drivetrain options. The latter one could be offered on the lower variants.
If reports are to be believed, the 5-door Jimny will also make its way to India sometime next year. Here, it will take head-to-head against the upcoming 5-door Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
