Mahindra Scorpio Indian Army Model Gets Bulletproof Windows

Recently, the old-generation Mahindra Scorpio was spotted testing in the country. The spied model features ‘Army Trail’ moniker at the rear and bulletproof windows. There are small holes positioned next to the rear window, which are likely to be for firing assault rifles. It hints that the spied Scorpio will be a new addition to the Indian army’s warfare fleet. One can notice the small, rectangular shaped structures fitted on sides and a bigger one at the rear end. While details of the Mahindra Scorpio new Army variant are still under the wraps, it’s likely to share some of its features with the Mahindra Rakshak.

New Mahindra Scorpio Indian Army Variant

Under the hood, the new Mahindra Scorpio Army edition is likely to feature the existing 2.2L mHawk diesel engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox. However, the oil burner could be tuned for generating more power and torque. In its current form, the diesel unit makes a peak power of 140bhp at 3,750rpm and 320Nm of torque between 1,500rpm – 2,800rpm.

New Mahindra Scorpio Army Trail Variant

In other updates, the home-grown carmaker is gearing up to launch the second-generation Mahindra Scorpio in the second half of 2021 or early 2022. The SUV will receive significant cosmetic and feature upgrades along with a new engine setup. The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio will come a new 2.2L turbocharged diesel and a new 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine making power close to 158bhp and 152bhp respectively.

Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. It will come with an optional AWD (all-wheel-drive) system. Besides this, the new-generation Scorpio will grow dimensionally and offer more cabin space.
