Kia Tusker (Kia SP) will take on the Hyundai Creta and the upcoming Nissan Kicks.

Kia SP concept-based compact SUV will be the first product from the Korean carmaker in India. The official name of the production-ready model is likely to the Kia Tusker based on the name contest voting. According to a fresh report, Kia’s first compact SUV for India will have its debut by May 2019. Currently, the vehicle is in its testing phase and has been caught on camera multiple times.

In India, the Kia Tusker (Kia SP) will gun up straight against the Hyundai Creta and the upcoming Nissan Kicks. Interestingly, Kia’s new compact SUV will share its platform and powertrain with its arch rival – Creta. That means, the 5-seater premium SUV will be made available with 1.4L petrol, 1.6L petrol and 1.6L CRDi diesel engine options.

While the oil burner makes power worth 126bhp, the 1.4L and 1.6L gasoline motors deliver 88bhp and 121bhp respectively. Rumor also has it that Kia might offer a new 1.5L petrol engine on the Tusker (Kia SP) model lineup. This new engine might also get hybrid system by 2023. The production-ready Kia Tusker will carry over most of its design bits from the Kia SP concept that broke cover at the 2018 Auto Expo. As far as pricing is concerned, the Kia Tusker is estimated to be priced between Rs 11 lakh – Rs 17 lakh, and take on the Hyundai Creta that costs Rs 9.50 lakh – Rs 15.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
