Kia Seltos Makes US Debut; Gets AWD and 10 Years Warranty

Korean automaker, Kia has introduced the blockbuster Seltos SUV at the 2019 LA Motor Show. The SUV is positioned between the popular Soul and Sportage, and is available with a choice of two engines include a spirited 175bhp, 1.6-litre turbo petrol and an available all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring control. In the US market, the SUV is available in 5 trims – LX, EX, S 2.0L, S 1.6T and SX.

The US-spec Seltos looks similar to the India-spec model. It gets Kia’s signature tiger nose grille, chiseled surfaces, a chrome beltline that melds into the D-pillar, dual-tone roof, harmonized grille and full LED “Beat” lighting, aggressive lower front bumper, front and rear skid plates and black wheel arch cladding. The SUV gets sculpted dual exhaust outlets, and rides on 17-, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Inside the cabin, the Kia Seltos gets a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, leather-wrapped steering wheel, sliding front console cover, rear air vent and USB charging port, and two-step reclining rear seat functionality, etc.

The Kia Seltos is available with 2 engine options – a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder MPI and a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol. While the former is good for 146bhp of power and 179Nm of torque, the turbo unit delivers 175bhp and 264Nm of torque. The naturally aspirated engine is paired to an Intelligent Variable Transmission, while the turbo engine is coupled to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Suspension mechanism comprise of MacPherson strut at the front and couple torsion beam axle at the rear. The all-wheel-drive system gets multi-link rear suspension. It comes with a choice of three drive modes – Normal, Eco and Sport. The Kia Seltos features 10.25-inch touchscreen with satellite radio, UVO telematics, navigation and split screen display. Safety features include blind spot collision warning, blind spot collision avoidance assist, driver attention warning, highway driving assist, lane departure warning system, lane keeping assist system, lane following assist, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist, rear occupant alert, smart cruise control with stop & go, and safe exist assist.
