India’s Top 4 SubCompact SUVs To Get Updates

In the sub-4 meter segment, the competition is getting fiercer with the launch of new models. In order to boost sales, Maruti Suzuki, Tata, Mahindra and Hyundai will give updates to their models in the next couple of years. Here’s a brief on upcoming updated versions of the existing subcompact SUVs.

Maruti Vitara Brezza

Maruti Suzuki’s top-selling SUV – Vitara Brezza will enter into its second generation in early 2022 (possibly in February 2022). The model will receive comprehensive changes inside and out. Rumour has it that the 2022 Maruti Vitara Brezza might get the stronger 48V SHVS hybrid system with the 104bhp, 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine. A new 6-speed automatic gearbox is likely to replace the 4-speed automatic unit. The new model will be based on the Heartect platform and is reported to come with the factory-fitted sunroof and connected car technologies.

Tata Nexon

Tata Motors is ready to give a generation change to its popular models including Tigao, Tigor, Altroz and Nexon. The next-generation Tata Nexon is expected to hit roads sometime in 2023. The compact SUV is likely to come with the improved design, more features and more refined powertrains. Details of the 2023 Tata Nexon are scanty. Though, it’s reported to be based on the Alfa platform that underpins the Altroz hatchback and the newly-launched Punch mini SUV. Rumour has it that the new Nexon might get mild hybrid technology that will make more frugal than the existing model.

Mahindra & Mahindra had announced its plan to launch 9 new SUVs in the next five years. The plan includes the new-generation Mahindra XUV300 that’s likely to arrive in 2024. As of now, details of the model are not available. Though, we expect it come with significantly updated design and upmarket interior. The automaker has confirmed that the new XUV300 will be offered with hybrid and electric powertrain options.

Hyundai Venue is ready to receive a mid-life updated in 2022. The automaker has already begun its testing in the country. The latest spy images confirm that the SUV will have new Tucson-inspired front fascia and carry new parametric grille. Several other updates will also be made to its exterior and interior. Under the hood, the new 2022 Hyundai Venue facelift is likely to feature the same 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0L turbo petrol and 1.5L turbo diesel engine. Transmission options will include the same 5-speed manual, 6-speed automatic and 7-speed DCT automatic units.
