Rapid’s Replacement – Skoda Slavia – Driven; All Engines

Under the new Project 2.0, Volkswagen Group has launched the new Skoda Kushaq and the VW Taigun mid-sized SUVs in the country. The next big launch will be an all-new Skoda Slavia sedan, which has been driven by our Editor in Chief Vikas Yogi. However, the company only provided the camouflaged prototypes of the new Slavia mid-sized sedan.

The new C-segment sedan will sit above the Rapid sedan in the company’s line-up; however, the current Rapid sedan will be discontinued in the near future. In terms of proportions, the new Skoda Slavia is positioned between the Rapid and the new-gen Octavia.

In terms of proportions, the new Skoda Slavia is significantly bigger than the Rapid, Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Ciaz. In fact, it looks similar to the new City sedan. The new model measures 4,541mm in length, 1,752mm in width and 1,487mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,651mm. It has a segment-largest wheelbase, which is around 100mm more than the Rapid sedan.Compared to the Rapid, the new Slavia is 128mm longer, 53mm wider and 21mm taller.

The new Skoda Slavia shares the engine options with the new Kushaq mid-sized SUV. It will be offered with two petrol engines – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged. The former is good for 115PS and 175Nm of torque, the later produces 150PS and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual as standard, a 6-speed torque convertor automatic with 1.0L petrol & a 7-speed DSG automatic with 1.5L petrol.

The new Slavia will be the most powerful sedan in its category. Its direct rival, the City sedan is powered by a 1.5L petrol engine that offers 121PS and 145Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic. However, the Slavia is not offered with a diesel engine option.

Design & Features

The new Skoda Slavia is expected to share lots of styling cues from the bigger Octavia sedan. However, the cabin is likely to be sourced from the Kushaq mid-sized SUV. In terms of styling, the sedan will have familiar blacked-out Skoda butterfly grille with chrome surrounds, and more prominent swept-back LED headlamps with LED DRLs. The sedan will have elegant design with clean creases and lines.

The sedan will have sloping coupe-like roofline. Similar to the Octavia, the new Slavia will have liftback tailgate for bigger boot. It will have LED wraparound tail-lights, diamond-cut alloys and powered ORVMs.
