Hyundai Xcent aka Grand i10 sedan- Preview

Hyundai Xcent compact sedan launched

Hyundai India, the country’s second largest car manufacturer is all set to introduce the highly anticipated compact sedan “Xcent” in the Indian car market. Also known as Grand i10 sedan, the vehicle will marks Hyundai’s entry into the compact sedan segment in India. It will directly compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and Honda Amaze, which currently dominated the growing sub-4 metre sedan segment of the country.

The Hyundai Xcent compact sedan will share its engine configuration with its sibling hatchback, Grand i10. The gasoline version of the sedan gets the 1.2-litre engine that churns out a maximum power output of 82bhp and 114Nm of peak torque. While the oil burner is packed with a 1.1-litre URDi engine producing 70bhp and 160Nm of torque. Both the engines are coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox; the petrol version will also come with an option of 4-speed auto gearbox. When compared to its competitor, Amaze and Swift Dzire have more powerful engine. It would be better for the company to launch the sedan with a more powerful 1.4-litre engine that powers the i20 hatchback.

The Hyundai Xcent has been developed specially for the Indian driving needs and lifestyles. The car adorns Hyundai signature mature ‘Fluidic design’ sculpture which makes it look sporty. It also comes equipped with several best-in-class features. Like its mechanical bits, the Hyundai Xcent shares its styling cues with Grand i10 hatchback. The front fascia of the sedan gets a large grille, swept back smoked headlamps and wrap-around tail lamps with chrome insert and chrome finished hexagonal air dam. The large front bumper comes with an integrated spoiler design adds to its aggressive styling. The rear profile has sporty dual tone bumper with stylish reflector and aerodynamic kick-up trunk lid design with chrome garnish. Its side profile gets a body coloured door handles with chrome inserts and ORVMs, and it features the 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels.

Inside the cabin, the sedan gets a bright dual tone beige and black interiors, while the plastic quality and fit & finish is top notch. The interiors of the compact sedan are exactly similar to that of Grand i10 hatchback. The vehicle has premium designed dashboard integrated with hexagonal outlined audio, comfortable seats with excellent cushioning and rear arm rest, several utility spaces in door trims and centre console.

For music lovers, the Hyundai Xcent features 2 Din audio system with USB, CD player with 1 GB internal memory. The audio controls and bluetooth are mounted on Steering wheel. Adding to it, the compact sedan has several high end elements including rear AC vents, smart key with push button start, rear parking camera and sensors, auto folding mirrors, electro-chromic mirror and one touch electric trunk opening.

The new Hyundai Grand i10 sedan aka Xcent gets both active and passive safety features including anti-lock braking system, dual airbags, rear parking assist, central locking, rear defogger and others. The new Hyundai Xcent is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 5 lakh to 7 lakh.
