Update- 2nd May, 2014

With the growing popularity of compact SUVs, carmakers are ready to introduce their cars in this segment. It is quite difficult for any manufacturer to launch new product every, amidst the slowdown in the market. Now, it seems like carmakers instead of launching new products in the market, they are coming up with upgraded models of the existing ones. Toyota Etios Cross is also the product which is based on the same theory.

Toyota Etios Cross will join the league of Volkswagen Cross Polo, which will later joined by the Fiat Avventura. Cross Polo being the first hatchback crossover failed to create any buzz in the market. The reason could be high pricing, and increasing competition. Fiat Avventura w ill come by the end of this year, and it is based on the Punto hatchback.

The new Toyota Etios Cross will be launched in the first week of May, 2014, while the bookings for the car have already been commenced. It is being offered in both petrol and diesel versions- the 80PS 1.2-litre petrol version, the 90PS 1.5-litre mill from the Liva TRD Sportivo and the 1.4-litre D4D 68PS diesel engine.

Mechanically the Etios Cross is identical to its hatchback sibling. There is no 4×4 version on offer and it gets the same ground clearance. To offer sporty character to it, the company has added black plastic cladding on the lower half of the car from the bumpers to the doors. Adding to it, the vehicle get new 10-spoke diamond cut alloy wheels and roof rails. Thanks to the body cladding, the Etios Cross has revised front bumper with new fog lamp cluster and grille, which distinguish it from the regular hatchback model. It will seat above the standard hatchback model in Etios series, so it gets features like ABS with EBD and two airbags, 2 DIN audio system with USB, Bluetooth and AUX-in connectivity, steering mounted audio controls, cooled glove box and rear defogger and wiper.

Inside the cabin, the Etios Cross has Piano black interiors; sporty seat fabric with white stitch and logo. The New Etios Cross is available in a new sporty Inferno Orange and seven other colors- Ultramarine Blue, Classic Grey, Symphony Silver, Celestial Black, White, Vermilion Red & Harmony Beige.

The Etios Cross is 3895mm long, 1735mm wide and 1555mm tall, making it 120mm longer, 40mm wider and 45mm taller than the Etios hatchback. The vehicle has a wheelbase of 2460mm and turning radius of 4.8 metre.

The Toyota Etios Cross is expected to costs around Rs. 30,000-40,000 more than the regular Etios Liva trim. So, we expect it to be priced around Rs. 5.5 lakh to 8 lakh.
