Hyundai Creta Base Model Gets Powerful 1.6L Diesel Engine

Korean automaker, Hyundai has silently introduced the 1.6-litre diesel engine option to the entry-level E+ and EX variants of the Creta compact SUV. However, the prices of the new variants are yet to be announced by the automaker. The Hyundai Creta is facing strong competition from the recently launched Kia Seltos. In fact, the Seltos has outsold the Creta for the 2 consecutive months. This could be the move to increase the sales of the existing Creta before bring the next-gen model in 2020.

The current Hyundai Creta diesel start at Rs 9.999 lakh for the base 1.4-litre diesel and goes up to Rs 15.67 lakh for the top-end 1.6-litre diesel SX(O) Executive trim. Hyundai is also offering discounts worth Rs 85,000 on the Creta SUV.

The entry-level Hyundai Creta variants are fitted with basic features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, seat belt reminders and a speed alert system. The Creta EX gets rear view camera. The base E+ model is fitted with features like manual AC, electrically adjustable ORVMs, rear AC vents, power windows and a height adjustable driver seat. With EX variant, Hyundai is giving a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, LED daytime running lights and fog lights.

The 1.6-litre diesel engine is capable of producing 126bhp of power and 260Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox. The higher variants also get a six-speed torque convertor automatic option.

Hyundai is readying the next-generation Creta SUV, which is expected to make debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. The new model will be benefitted with Hyundai’s latest design language and all-new interior. Adding to it, the SUV will receive the new BS6 compliant 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. A performance oriented version is also in the works.
