MG Motor Likely To Introduce Kia Seltos Rival in 2020

MG Baojun RS-3

MG Motor is all set to showcase its future product range at the 2020 Auto Expo. The company plans to launch 5 new models in our market in the next couple of years. The second MG model – the eZS electric SUV is expected to arrive in December 2019 or January 2020. Adding to it, the company is readying the 7-seater version of the Hector SUV. The 7-seater MG Hector is likely to be launched at the Auto Expo 2020 and will challenge the Tata Buzzard – the 7-seater Harrier.

What’s more interesting is that the British brand is readying an all-new compact SUV for the Indian market. The new compact SUV is expected to be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020. MG is yet to reveal the details about the new SUV, but it is most likely to be a 5-seater premium SUV to be positioned below the Hector. The new model will directly rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and others in its category.

MG Baojun RS-3 Front

MG Hector is basically the re-engineered Baojun 530. MG Motors is also testing the Baojun 510, which sits around 4.3 meters in length. SAIC Motors has also readying an all-new Baojun RS-3 SUV, which is set to replace the Baojun 510. It is most likely that the re-engineered version of the RS-3 SUV could arrive in our market. The new SUV measures 4,300mm in length, 1,750mm in width, 1,625mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,550mm, which makes it slightly longer and wider than the Baojun 510. The SUV could be offered with 2 petrol engines – a 104bhp, 1.5-litre petrol and a 128bhp, 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol.

MG Motor could also introduce a full-size SUV, which will take on the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the Mahindra Alturas G4. The SUV is likely to be based on the MG X Motion concept that was showcased in Beijing in 2018. Previous media reports claim that MG could also launch the Maxus D90 7-seater SUV in India before Diwali 2020. Based on a light truck platform, the Maxus D90 measures 5,005mm in length, 1,932mm in width, 1,875mm in height and 2,950mm of wheelbase. The SUV will be the biggest in its category.
