Hyundai Casper (codenamed AX1), the upcoming mini SUV from the South Korean carmaker, is ready to enter into production on 15th September, 2021. The model will be manufactured at Gwangju Global Motors (GGM) automotive plant in Gwangju. The plant, the first production facility built in Korea in 23 years, can produce 70,000 units of the mini SUV on an annual basis.
The mini SUV will also make its way to India, however, its official launch timeline yet to be revealed by the carmaker. It will be the fifth addition to Hyundai’s SUV model lineup that includes Venue, Creta, Alcazar and Tucson.
The overall length, width and height of the new Hyundai Casper (AX1) will stand at 3595mm, 1595mm and 1575mm respectively. It will be the smallest Hyundai SUV in the country. The new Hyundai mini SIV is likely to be built on the K1 platform that has already been used in the Santro and Grand i10 Nios hatchbacks. The new images of the Casper highlight its upright and boxy stance. The front fascia carries the grillewith triangular pattern and circular headlamps with integrated round LED DRLs and LED turn indicators. The blacked out alloy wheels look sporty.
Its interior images were leaked a few weeks ago revealing its White interior theme. The mini SUV also gets a large touchscreen infotainment system, armrest for driver and co-occupant, adjustable headrests, white leather seats, rear AC vents and central console with lots of storage spaces.
In India, the upcoming Hyundai Casper (AX1) mini SUV is likely to be offered with a 1.2L petrol engine that’s good for 82bhp and 113Nm. The lower trims could be made available with the 1.1L petrol unit delivering power worth 68bhp and 99Nm of torque. All variants will come with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
In Korea, the micro SUV will be packed with a 1.0L Smartstream naturally aspirated petrol engine that will make power worth 75bhp and 95Nm of torque. The motor will be paired to a 4-speed automatic gearbox.
