Hyundai Stargazer 7-seater MPV Could Launch In India In 2022

Korean automaker, Hyundai will launch an all-new 7-seater MPV in the Indian market in 2022. The new model will first go on sale in Indonesia in the first half of next year. In fact, the MPV has been caught testing in South Korea. Internally called the Hyundai KS, the new model is reportedly to be called the Hyundai Stargazer.

The company has trademarked the Hyundai Stargazer nameplate, which is most likely to be used for the upcoming MPV. The new model is likely to be based on the modified version of the Creta’s platform, which also underpins the Alacazar. The new MPV could measure around 4.5 meters in length, which is in-line with the Mahindra Marazz. The new Hyundai Stargazer is likely to be positioned between the Suzuki Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta, in terms of pricing & size.

Production of the new model is likely to commence in early 2021. It is most likely to be produced at Hyundai’s new production facility in Indonesia. In Indonesia, the new MPV will rival the Honda N7X based MPV, Nissan Livinia and the Mitsubishi XPander. The new MPV is most likely to share styling cues from bigger Hyundai models including the soon-to-be-launched Custo MPV in China.

The new Hyundai MPV is most likely to share the engine options with the Creta. The petrol version will get the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol that produces 113bhp and 145Nm of torque. The diesel version will get the 1.5-litre turbocharged unit that churns out 113bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer.

Kia Motors is also developing a new MPV for the Indian market, which will be launched in early 2022. The new model will share the underpinnings with the new Alcazar; however, the engine options will include the 1.5L petrol and 1.5L diesel. It is expected that Hyundai’s MPV will share the platform and engine options with the Kia-sibling.
