BMW is all set to launch their new entry level model the 1-Series in the Indian car market on the 3rd of September. The 1-Series will get both petrol and diesel engine options.
The BMW 1 Series 118d will be powered by the 1997cc diesel engine, which also powers the other BMW models in India. The diesel engine is capable of developing a top power of 143bhp.
The petrol 1-Series will be powered by the 1.6-litre turbocharged direct injection motor that also powers the Mini Cooper and Cooper S. The petrol engine is capable of developing 136bhp of power. Both the engine options will be mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The company will also tweak the suspension of the 1-Series to make it for Indian roads.
The 1-Series shows the true artistry of the German automakers, it has a longitudinal engine, 50:50 weight distributions, rear wheel drive layout and others. This will surely increase the competition level in the luxury hatchback segment. The BMW 1-Series will be locally produced at the BMW production facility in Chennai. The exact pricing details of the new luxury hatchback are yet to be announced by the company, but we expect it to be priced in the range of Rs. 20 to 15 lakh.
