Electric Cars To Unveil At Auto Expo 2023 – Tata, Hyundai, Maruti

Electric is the future! And, this is quite evident from the rising demand for EVs in both two-wheeler and four-wheeler space. Auto manufacturers are also responding to this suddent surge in EV demand. The electric 4-wheeler segment is currently dominated by Tata Motors, which currently commands over 80 per cent market share. In the next couple of years, we will witness the arrival of many EVs in the country. In this article, we bring you a list of probable or confirmed Electric cars to be unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo in January.

Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that it will showcase its futuristic SUV EV concept at the 16th edition of the Indian Auto Expo. Internally codenamed YY8, the new Maruti SUV EV concept will preview the brand’s first EV for the Indian market. This electric vehicle is scheduled to be launched in the first half of 2025. It will be based on Toyota’s 27PL platform, which is an affordable derivative of the 40PL platform. The new model is expected to be offered with two battery packs 48kWh with close to 400km range and 59kWh with 500km range on a single charge. It will come in both two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive layout.

MG 4 EV India Launch

MG Motor India will unveil the India-spec Air 2-door electric car at the biennial event. Not just this urban EV, the company will also showcase the MG 4 EV at the Auto Expo 2023. This electric hatch has achieved a 5-star safety rating in the Euro NCAP crash test. Based on SAIC’s modular Scalable Platform (MSP) platform, the new MG 4 EV is offered with the 51kWh and 64kWh battery pack options delivering power worth 170bhp and 203bhp respectively. Both versions have a single-motor, RWD system and offer a maximum torque of 250Nm. As per WLTP cycle, the 51kWh battery version offers 350km range and the 64kWh battery pack offers 452km range on a single charge.

MG Motor India is expected to launch the Air 2 door EV at the Auto event. Based on the China-spec Wuling Air EV, the new entry-level MG EV is expected to enter the production line in March 2023. It is likely to use a battery pack ranging between 20kWh – 25kWh. It will deliver power close to 40bhp and offer an electric range of around 150km.

Hyundai will announce the prices of the Ioniq 5 electric crossover at the 2023 Auto Expo. Interested buyers can book the new EV online or at authorised dealership by paying a token amount of Rs 1 lakh. The EV is based on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which also underpins the Kia EV6. It is offered with two battery pack options – a 72.6kWh and a 58kWh – offering a range of around 384km and 481km respectively.

Hyundai will also showcase the recently unveiled Ioniq 6 electric sedan at the auto event. It is based on the E-GMP skateboard architecture which also underpins the Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV is offered with two battery size options – 53kWh and 77kWh. The rear-wheel drive version with 53kWh battery offers 429km of range, while the RWD with 77.4kwh offers 614km of range. The AWD version delivers a WLTP certified range of 583km.

Currently ruling the EV segment, Tata Motors is aiming to further strengthen its position in the EV segment by introducing multiple new models in the next couple of years. The company will showcase multiple EVs at the biennial event. It is expected that the company will showcase the production ready Altroz EV at the event. Adding to it, the Punch based micro EV SUV could also be showcased to the public. Tata Motors will also showcase the different versions of the Curvv and Avinya EV concepts at the Auto Show 2023.

Build Your Dreams or BYD, the Chinese EV maker will showcase its new Atto 3 electric SUV at the Delhi Auto Expo. Priced at Rs 33.99 lakh, the Atto 3 is positioned as a premium alternative to the likes of the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona EV. Featuring 60kWh BYD Blade battery pack, the Atto 3 is claimed to deliver 521km of range on a single charge. Not just Atto 3, BYD will also showcase its multiple global EVs at the biennial event.
