Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV (Tesla Model 3 Rival) At Auto Expo 2023

The Korean automaker, Hyundai is preparing to unveil a wide range of new models at the 2023 Auto Expo that starts on January 11. The company is likely to announce the prices of the Ioniq 5 electric crossover at the biennial event. Adding to it, the next-gen Verna sedan and the Creta facelift could also make their India debut at the 16th edition of Indian auto expo. A new report claims that Hyundai will also showcase the recently unveiled Ioniq 6 electric sedan at the auto event.

First unveiled in June 2022, the Ioniq 6 is the brand’s third electric vehicle with the other two being the Kona EV and the Ioniq 5. It was first previewed as the Hyundai Prophecy concept, which was also presented at the 2023 Auto Expo. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is the second product from Hyundai to be based on the E-GMP skateboard architecture. This platform also underpins the Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5. This skateboard architecture is compatible with scalable battery sizes, rear- or all-wheel drive layout, a flat floor for maximum interior size and EV-specific dimensions.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is designed in a manner to have a drag coefficient of just 0.21. The electric sedan comes with flush door handles and cameras instead of conventional outside rear view mirrors. At the back, the EV gets pixel-style LED tail-lights, a ducktail rear spoiler and a curved shoulder line.

Inside the cabin, the sedan gets a flat centre console and a pair of dual 12-inch touchscreens for infotainment & driver display, and a two-spoke steering wheel. In terms of proportions, the Ioniq 6 is 4855mm long, 1880mm wide and 1495mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2950mm.

The new Hyundai Ioniq 6 is offered with two battery size options – 53kWh and 77kWh. Single motor RWD set-up comes as standard, while the higher-spec variant comes with dual motor AWD option. The Dual Motor produces 302bhp and 605Nm, while the RWD setup pushes out 228bhp and 350Nm. The RWD version with 53kWh battery offers 429km of range, while the RWD with 77.4kWh offers 614km of range. The AWD version delivers a WLTP certified range of 583km.
