Select Volkswagen dealers have started accepting pre-bookings for the upcoming Taigun mid-sized SUV unofficially. The SUV can be booked at a token amount of Rs 10,000; however, VW is yet to make an official announcement. A new media report claims that the Volkswagen Taigun could be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom).
The report claims that KUN Volkswagen has sent a Whatsapp message, which reveals that the ex-showroom price of the new Taigun is Rs 10 lakhs to Rs 17 lakhs. At this price tag, the Taigun will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Nissan Kicks.
The Volkswagen Taigun is expected to be launched around August 2021, before Diwali. The new model is based on the India-specific MQB AO IN platform, which also underpins the Skoda Kushsaq. As a reminder, the Skoda Kushaq is scheduled to be launched in June 2021. It is reported that the Taigun will be positioned as a premium model, and could get advanced driver assistance features (ADAS).
The new Volkswagen Taigun mid-sized SUV will receive a new Play infotainment system with a 10.1-inch touchscreen display. This display will also work as a rear view camera. The infotainment system will support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and it could also get in-car Wi-FI and live music and audio podcast streaming via SIM-based internet access.
The SUV’s ADAS system could offer features like a lane assist system, adaptive cruise control, park pilot, park assist, blind spot detection, emergency braking system, etc. The SUV’s safety and security features will include six airbags, ESP, traction control, hill hold and descent control, and TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System). In terms of features, the SUV will get a touch-sensitive climate control, wireless phone charging pad, a single-pane electric sunroof, ventilated front seats, LED lighting system, etc.
Riding on a wheelbase of 2,651mm, the new VW Taigun will measure around 4.3 meters in length. The SUV will be offered with two petrol engine options – a 114bhp, 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol with 6MT & 6AT, and a 147bhp, 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged with 7-speed DSG automatic.
