Yamaha Tracer Name Patented In India – A New Sports Tourer?

Japanese two-wheeler maker, Yamaha is gearing up for the launch of the new FZ-X 150cc retro-styled naked motorcycle in the Indian market. The motorcycle has already been caught testing in India. Yamaha has also confirmed that the brand will only deal in premium segment, and will focus on introducing bikes above 150cc segment. The company currently sells motorcycles under three brands – R, FZ and MT.

Interestingly, Yamaha has patented the Tracer nameplate in India. The brand currently sells Sports Tourer with bigger capacity engines in international markets under Tracer nameplate. The local patent suggests that Yamaha is considering sports tourer motorcycles under Tracer brand for the Indian market.

Yamaha is currently selling the Tracer 700 and Tracer 900 in select international markets. In fact, the Tracer 900 is also on sale in Asian markets like Thailand and Indonesia. Previous media reports claim that the Japanese brand is also readying an all-new entry-level sports tourer.

The sports tourer and adventure bikes are gaining huge popularity among Indian buyers. These motorcycles offer high ground clearance, better ergonomics and comfortable seat for long touring. It is reported that Yamaha could be developing a new Tracer 250. The entry-level Tourer is expected to share design with the bigger Tracer 700. The semi-faired motorcycle will come with a large windshield, USD front forks at the front, MT-15-like fuel tank, split seats, etc.

Details about the new motorcycles are yet to be revealed, but it expected that the Tracer 250 could share the engine specifications with the popular MT-25. Yamaha engineers will tune this engine to meet the needs of a Sports Tourer. The motorcycle is also likely to be based on the same platform that also underpins the MT-25.
