Royal Enfield Scram – Name For Upcoming 650cc Scrambler?

Royal Enfield has planned a range of new models for the Indian market. In fact, the bikemaker has registered multiple nameplates for its upcoming products including Hunter, Shotgun, Roadster, Sherpa and Flying Flea. Recently, the company filed a trademark application for the name ‘Royal Enfield Scram’. While there is no official information, it’s likely to be used for the upcoming Royal Enfield 650cc scrambler.  The model is likely to share its platform with the RE Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 motorcycles.

Some of its features might also be borrowed from the 650 twins. The new Royal Enfield Scram 650cc scrambler is likely to carry retro-styled circular headlamp along with higher ground clearance. The bike might run on the spoked alloy wheels shod with dual purpose tyres. It might feature minimal bodywork and upswept exhaust.

On the engine front, the Royal Enfield Scram 650cc scrambler is likely to offer 648cc, air/oil-cooled parallel twin engine sourced from the 650cc twins. The motor pushes out a peak power of 47bhp at 7,150rpm and 52Nm of torque at 5,250rpm. This fuel injected engine was conceived at RE’s Bruntingthorpe-based facility in UK and its development took place in collaboration with RE’s engineers in Chennai. It has a new balancer shaft that reduces vibrations. It will come with a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox.

Similar to the 650cc twins, the new Royal Enfield Scram might come fitted with the forks upfront and twin shocks rear suspension unit. For braking duties, it will use 320mm front and 240mm rear disc brakes along with the standard dual-channel ABS (anti-lock braking system).

Compared to the RE Interceptor and Continental GT 650, the upcoming 650cc scrambler is likely to be more affordable. Currently, the Interceptor 650 is available in three variants priced between Rs 2.56 lakh – Rs 2.88 lakh and the Continental GT Standard costs from Rs 2.75 lakh to Rs 2.97 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, Karnataka.
