BS6 Hyundai Venue Gets A New, More Powerful 1.5L Diesel Engine
We have reported earlier that Hyundai Venue with a new 1.5L diesel engine started arriving at dealerships. The new BS6-compliant oil burner comes as a replacement to the 1.4L CRDi diesel engine that’s good for 89bhp and 220Nm. Compared to the 1.4L motor, the new 1.5L, 4-cylinder unit will be 10bhp more powerful delivering power worth 100bhp.
The same 1.5L diesel engine does duty in the Kia Seltos and the upcoming new-generation Hyundai Creta. While the SUVs oil burner has a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT), the Venue’s motor is boosted with the fixed geometry turbo (FGT). Therefore, there is a difference in the power output. In Seltos and Creta, the same powertrain (with VGT) returns a claimed power of 113bhp.
The torque figure of the Hyundai Venue 1.5L diesel is yet to be revealed. Though, it’s likely to equivalent to the BS4 1.4L diesel motor – i.e. 220Nm. The latter one promises a fuel economy of 23.7kmpl. Compared to the existing Venue diesel (1.4L), the new, more powerful 1.5L diesel model will be priced around Rs 30,000 premium.
While the Venue’s 1.2L naturally aspirated Kappa engine was recently upgraded to meet the BS6 emission norms, the 1.0L turbocharged petrol motor was BS6-ready from day one. The updated 1.2L petrol models of the subcompact SUV witnessed a price hike of around Rs 15,000 and the 1.0L turbo petrol variants get pricier by Rs 20,000. At present, the BS6 Venue petrol variants are priced from Rs 6.70 lakh to Rs 10.95 lakh (ex-showroom).
Launched in May 2019, the Hyundai Venue has been doing really well for the carmaker. The SUV offers dual front airbags, ABS, central locking, rear parking sensors, speed sensing door locks, fabric upholstery, adjustable front seat headrests, manual AC unit, tilt steering, manual day/night inside rear view mirror, front power windows and 15-inch steel wheels as standard features.
