In order to regain lost market share, Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch close to 8 new cars in the country in the next 18 months. A new media report claims that Maruti Suzuki will launch 4 new SUVs and the updated versions of the Baleno, Ertiga and the XL6. Moreover, the company will introduce the new generation Alto that has been spotted testing several times.
The report claims that MSIL will launch the new Brezza sub-4 meter SUV that has recently been leaked on the Internet. The new model will retain the existing platform and the overall profile; however, design elements like grille, bumper, lighting system will be completely new. The new model will receive all-new interior with features like new 9-inch touchscreen, wireless connectivity, e-SIM based connected car tech, cruise control, six airbags, electric sunroof, etc.
The new Maruti Brezza will be powered by the 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with a stronger hybrid system. It will come with a 6-speed automatic gearbox instead of 4-speed in the current model. Adding to it, the company is also expected to launch the CNG version of the Brezza.
What’s interesting is that Maruti Suzuki will introduce the Jimny, a new mid-sized SUV and a new coupe SUV before the end of next financial year (Between April 2022 to March 2023). The company is preparing a long-wheelbase 5-door version of the Jimny, which will be positioned against the Mahindra Thar and the Force Gurkha.
The new mid-sized SUV will be jointly developed by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. It is likely to be based on Toyota’s DNGA platform that underpins the Raize and the new Avanza. The new SUV will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi based plant. It will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the MG Astor.
Maruti Suzuki is also preparing a Coupe SUV based on the lightweight HEARTECT platform. It will measure under 4 meters and will be launched as a premium model. The new model will come with a stronger hybrid system. It will rival the higher variants of the Hyundai Venue and the Kia Seltos.
