7 Upcoming Skoda, Volkswagen Cars to Get 1.0L Turbo-Petrol Engine

We informed you earlier that Volkswagen Group Companies in India including VW India Pvt. Ltd., VW Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd. and Skoda Auto Pvt. Ltd. have merged to form a single entity – Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd. (SAVWIPL). The new entity has confirmed to go petrol only. Most of its products will be offered in petrol version, and the new locally developed 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine will be the mainstay.

The BSVI compliant Skoda Rapid will soon receive the new 1.0-litre TSI turbo petrol engine that also powers the BSVI VW Polo and Vento. This 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine is capable of producing 108bhp of power and 175Nm of torque. Transmission options will include the 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

Volkswagen Taigun Details

Skoda will also offer this engine with the upcoming Vision IN concept based mid-sized SUV and the next-gen Skoda Rapid. While the mid-sized SUV will be launched in the first quarter of 2020, the next-gen Rapid will go on sale in the second half. The new models will be based on the locally developed MQB AO IN platform. Not just 1.0L engine, the Vision IN based SUV will also receive the 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

Volkswagen is also readying 4 new cars based on the MQB AO IN platform. The VW mid-sized SUV will go on sale will be the first model on this platform. It will go on sale in the first half of 2021, which will be followed by next-gen Vento in the second half. The company will launch the new sub-4 meter SUV and the next-gen Polo in 2022. All these 4 models will be powered by the new locally developed MQB AO IN platform.
