Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to expand its SUV lineup in India over the next few years. The Indo-Japanese automaker will also foray into the electric vehicle (EV) space with a SUV based on the eVX concept that broke cover at the Auto Expo 2023. It will also bring in 5 more new electric cars with different body style and battery capacity. The Maruti Fronx and Jimny 5-door SUV are all set to hit roads in coming months, while the new Maruti 7-seater SUV has also been planned. Here’re some key details of the upcoming new Maruti SUVs.

Maruti Fronx

New Maruti Crossover Fronx

The all-new Fronx crossover, which has been designed on the Heartect platform, will be offered in Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta and Alpha trims. Buyers will have two engine options – a 1.0L Boosterjet petrol and a 1.2L K-series naturally aspirated petrol. While the former makes a top power of 100bhp and 147.6Nm of torque, the latter one is good enough for 90bhp and 113Nm. The Boosterjet motor comes with the 5-speed manual and 6-speed torque convertor automatic (with paddle shifters) gearbox options. Maruti Jimny Prices

The Maruti Jimny 5-door SUV will be put up against the Mahindra Thar 5-door that’s due for 2023. For power, the off-road SUV uses a 1.5L K15B petrol engine delivering power worth 105bhp and 134Nm of torque. It will be offered in two variants – Zeta and Alpha, and both models have Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4X4 drivetrain system with low range transfer gear. The SUV’s approach, breakover and departure angles stand at 36 degree, 24 degree and 50 degree respectively. It has a ground clearance of 210mm and comes with features such as electronic traction control system and 3-link rigid axle suspension. More details here…

Maruti Grand Vitara Debut

The upcoming 7-seater SUV is surely one of the much-awaited new Maruti SUVs among buyers. The model will be based on the Grand Vitara and share most of its design elements, features and components with its donor sibling. Powertrain system of the new Maruti 7-seater SUV will consist of a 1.5L K15C petrol engine and a 1.5L Atkinson cycle petrol. It will be the most expensive SUV from Maruti Suzuki and it will be produced at the company’s new Kharkhoda plant in Haryana. As of now, official name and details of the model are not available. Maruti Suzuki eVX Launch

The Maruti eVX concept based electric SUV will challenge the Hyundai Creta EV that’s reportedly under development. The model is likely to hit roads in early 2025. Interestingly, it will be the first electric car from the Indo-Japanese automaker to be designed on the born-EV architecture. The SUV will be over 4.2 meters in length and have a wheelbase of 2700mm. The production-ready version is expected to retain most of design elements from the concept that features a closed-off grille, sleek headlamps with LED DRLs, a prominent bonnet, a flat nose, alloy wheels, coupe-like roofline and a short overhang. As mentioned above, the carmaker confirmed that it’s working on 6 new electric cars for the Indian market. While the company hasn’t yet revealed names of the models, the teaser shows silhouettes similar to the Fronx, Jimny and Grand Vitara SUVs.
