Maruti Jimny Base Variant Explained – Features, Design, Specs

Maruti Suzuki Jimny has been gathering bookings even before its price announcement in the country. The model has received over 10,000 pre-orders so far. While its exact launch date is yet to be announced, the SUV is expected to go on sale in May 2023. The Maruti Jimny 5-door will be made available in two trims – Zeta and Alpha – powered by a 1.5L K15B petrol engine.

The motor, with the mild hybrid tech, delivers a peak power of 105bhp and 134Nm of torque. It gets AllGrip Pro 4WD system as standard along with a manual transfer case and low range gearbox with ‘2WD-high’, ‘4WD-high’ and ‘4WD-low’.

Recently, the base variant of the Jimny SUV was caught on camera. Painted in Kinetic Yellow colour, the model features the retro-styled circular halogen headlamps, vertical multi-slat grille, black front and rear bumpers, black body cladding and ORVMs, a covered spare wheel on the tailgate and a high mounted stop lamp. Interior image shows a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a dual pod instrument cluster and a three-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls. The model has all-black interior theme. The Maruti Jimny Zeta variant also comes with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, 4-speaker audio system, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, colour MID display, rear defogger, power windows, reversing camera, brake limited slip differential, seatbelt pretensioners, electronic stability program, Isofix child seat anchorages and 6 airbags.

Features such as 3-link rigid axle suspension, electronic traction control system and a ground clearance of 210mm enhance its off-road capabilities. The Maruti Jimny 5-door comes has an approach angle of 36 degree, breakover angle of 24 degree and departure angle of 50 degree. The SUV has been designed on the ladder-frame chassis.
