Suzuki Motor Corporation has revealed its global product strategy that includes BEV (battery electric vehicles), HEV (hybrid electric vehicles) and ICE (internal combustion engine) models along with ethanol, CNG, biogas running models. All these vehicles will be rolled out by FY30. Talking about the Indian market, Maruti Suzuki has planned six new battery EVs along with models co-developed under Toyota-Suzuki partnership. The first Maruti electric car will hit our shores by 2025, followed by other five models by 2030.

Maruti Suzuki’s first electric car will be based on the eVX concept that recently made its public debut at the Auto Expo 2023. Its production-ready version will be put up against the Hyundai Creta EV that’s currently in its initial development phase. The model will use a 60kWh battery pack with LFP blade cells and deliver a claimed range of 550km on a single charge. While the carmaker hasn’t yet revealed names of the upcoming new Maruti electric cars, the lineup is likely to include electric iteration of the WagonR hatchback, Baleno EV, Jimny EV, Fornx EV and Grand Vitara EV.

The official document states that Suzuki’s ICE-powered models will cover 60 percent of the domestic market by FY30. While the battery electric vehicles will account 15 percent, the hybrid electric vehicles will have 25 percent of the market. With an aim to achieve a turnover of Rs 4.39 lakh crore and carbon neutral portfolio, the company will make an investment of 4.5 trillion yen (approx. Rs 2.82 lakh crore).

Under its Growth Strategy for FY30, the Japanese automaker will follow “Sho-Sho-Kei-Tan-Bi (Smaller, Fewer, Lighter, Shorter and Beauty)” philosophy of manufacturing. It will emphasize to “develop products and services focused on the customer, and grow along with the operating countries and regions.” Suzuki targets to achieve carbon neutrality in India by 2070 and in Japan and Europe by 2050.
