The 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny is one of the much-anticipated new car launches of this year. The lifestyle SUV will go on sale in the last couple of weeks of May 2023. The carmaker’s Gurugram plant will serve as production hub for both domestic and export markets. Its bookings are already underway and it gathered over 35,000 orders so far.
Engine, Gearbox Combos
It’s a sub-4 metre SUV, powered by a 1.5L K15B, 4-cylinder petrol engine with an idle start/stop function. The motor has been tuned for producing a peak power of 103PS at 6,000rpm and 134Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. The SUV comes with a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox options. Off-Road Capabilities
Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4X4 drivetrain system with a low-range gearbox is also on offer. The gearbox unit comes with three modes – 2WD-high, 4WD-low and 4WD-high. The carmaker revealed that the 5-door Jimny has an approach angle of 36°, a departure angle of 50°, and a break-over angle of 24°. It sits on a ladder-on-frame chassis and stands with a ground clearance of 210mm.
Suspension duties are performed by 3-link rigid axle. It also gets an electronic traction control system that prevents slipping wheels by redistributing torque to other wheels with the brake application. The off-road SUV has been assembled with 15-inch alloy wheels shod with 195/80 section tyres.
Variant Break-Up
The 5-door Maruti Jimny gets two trims – Zeta and Alpha. The base variant comes with features such as a 7.0-inch touchscreen SmartPlay Pro infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, 4-speaker audio system, coloured MID display, reversing camera, power windows, seatbelt pretensioners, electronic stability program, 6 airbags, brake limited slip differential, Isofix child seat anchorages, electrically adjustable wing mirrors and steel wheels. The Jimny Alpha trim has some exclusive features on offer. It has been packed with a bigger 9.0-inch touchscreen SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system, Arkamys sound system, climate control, cruise control, keyless start, headlamp washers, LED headlamps, fog lamps, auto headlamps, body-coloured door handles and alloy wheels.
Colours, Dimensions
The 5-door Maruti Jimny will come in 5 monotone and 2 dual-tone colour schemes – Sizzling Red + Bluish Black Roof, Kinetic Yellow + Bluish Black Roof, Nexa Blue, Sizzling Red, Bluish Black, Pearl Arctic White and Granite Grey. The overall length, width and height of the SUV stand at 3985mm, 1645mm and 1720mm respectively. It has a wheelbase of 2590mm.
Price Expectations
Prices of the Jimny 5-door are expected to start from Rs 10 lakh for the Zeta base variant and go up to Rs 13 lakh for the range-topping Alpha trim. Its official prices will be announced in late May 2023.
