Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has been dominating the MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) segment since its launch in 2012. The Kia Carens and Toyota Innova are its closest rivals. In March 2023, the Indo-Japanese automaker manged to sell 9,028 units of the Ertiga against 7,888 units in the same month last year, registering 14% YoY growth. The Toyota Innova (Crysta + Hycross) stood at number two with total sales of 8,075 units as opposed to 7,917 units. It recorded sales growth of 2%.
What’s interesting here is that the sales gap between the Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova (Crysta + Hycross) narrows down to just 953 units. The carmaker started delivering the new Innova Hycross in late January (that too in select cities). The MPV has been receiving overwhelming response from buyers and proof of it lies in the fact that its waiting period reached up to 26 months. The MPV’s non-hybrid version is being promised to deliver within 6 to 7 months. One must note that the waiting period depends on variant, colour and city.
The Toyota Innova Hycross comes with the 2.0L Atkinson cycle and 2.0L petrol engines, making 184bhp and 172bhp respectively. While the former delivers a claimed fuel efficiency of 23.24kmpl, the latter offers 16.13kmpl. It can be had with either 7-seats or 8-seats configuration. The MPV has Toyota’s Safety Sense (ADAS – advanced driver assistance system) along with the ABS with EBD, traction control, electronic stability programe and 6 airbags.
