Baojun Yep – MG Comet Based SUV Revealed In Production Avatar

MG Motor India is all set to introduce the new Comet compact electric car in our market on April 19, 2023. This Smart EV is based on the GSEV skateboard platform, which will also underpin multiple electric vehicles in our market. Baojun is ready to introduce an all-new Yep SUV that is based on the Comet’s platform. Ahead of the debut at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show, the India-bound Baojun Yep micro electric SUV has been revealed on the Internet.

In terms of proportions, the Baojun Yep SUV is 3,381mm in length, 1,685mm in width and 1,721mm in height. The small SUV has a wheelbase of 2,110mm, which is 100mm longer than the Comet. Similar to the Comet EV, the India-bound Yep SUV has a rear mounted single motor set-up. The SUV will also receive a dual-motor 4WD variant in the future. The vehicle gets an LFP battery, and the current RWD version churns out 68bhp and 140Nm of torque, and has a top speed of 100kph. It is claimed to offer a driving range of 303km on a single charge.

The GSEV platform will be heavily localised for the India-spec MG Yep SUV. The SUV won’t receive major changes, as the India-bound model will retain the retro-styled boxy three-door shape. Not just styling, the India-bound model will also share the interior with the Baoun Yep SUV.

The MG Yep electric SUV is reportedly to be launched in our market by 2025. The new model will be positioned above the Comet EV; however, it will be priced aggressively thanks to heavy localisation. The new model won’t have a direct rival in our market, but it could challenge the Citroen eC3.
