The new-generation Mahindra Thar is ready to hit roads on 2nd October, 2020. The carmaker has already confirmed that the off-road SUV’s new model will come in two trims – AX and LX – with both petrol and automatic engine options. It will be a 2-door version with three roof top configurations – hard, soft and convertible. We have reported earlier that Mahindra is evaluating 5-door Thar for the Indian market. A latest media report claims that the Thar’s 5-door model has got the green signal from the management as it was under evaluation.
The 5-door Mahindra Thar might have slightly longer wheelbase than its 2-door model. The longer wheelbase will also translate into more cabin space. The new Thar will be placed against the Force Gurkha that’s ready for a generation change during this festive season. The new Gurkha will be offered in 3-door and 5-door version. The 5-door Mahindra Thar will also take on the upcoming 5-door Suzuki Jimny.
Talking about the 2020 Mahindra Thar, the off-road SUV underpins a new ladder-frame chassis. As mentioned about, the new-generation model will be made available with a 2.0L mStallion petrol and 2.2L mHawk diesel engines making 152bhp and 132bhp respectively. Buyers will have two gearboxes to choose from a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. All variants of the new Thar will come with FWD (four-wheel-drive) and a manual-shift transfer case. Check Out – Mahindra Thar 4-Door Version Might Look Like This
