New Mahindra Thar 4-Door SUV Looks Rugged In A Digital Rendering

Mahindra & Mahindra recently revealed the second-generation Thar 2-door SUV in the country. The off-road SUV’s new model has been scheduled to launch on 2nd October, 2020. While the carmaker has no plan to bring in 4-door version of the new Thar, a latest digital rendering gives us a preview of the 2020 Mahindra Thar 4-door SUV.

Design and styling of the 4-door Thar has been inspired by the Mahindra Armada, which was based on the Jeep. Just so you know, the Armada SUV was first introduced in India in 1998 and discontinued in 2001. Similar to the new-generation Thar, the rendered 4-door version features a seven-slot grille, pronounced bumper and fog lamp assembly. Though, the halogen circular headlamps have been replaced with the rectangular units.

Compared to the upcoming 2-door version, the 2020 Thar 4-door appears longer with an additional third row seats. The black cladding around the wheel arches, body-coloured door handles and tyres seem to be carried over from the new Thar. It underpins the brand’s new ladder-frame chassis and is likely to feature the new suspension setup. Inside, the 2020 Mahindra Thar 4-door might have enough cabin space to accommodate 7 passengers. Most of the features will be carried over from the new Thar. Read – New Mahindra Thar Vs Force Gurkha

With the generation change, the Thar has received a petrol engine and an automatic gearbox for the first time. The SUV will be made available with a new 2.0L mStallion petrol motor pushing out a peak power of 150bhp with 320Nm of torque. The diesel model will use the BS6-compliant 2.2L mHawk turbo motor that’s good enough for 130bhp with 320Nm. Both engines will be offered with manual and automatic gearbox options.

While the official prices of the new Thar will be announced on 2nd October, it’s likely to cost from Rs 19 lakh for the base model and Rs 15 lakh for the top-end variant.
