3 New Maruti Ertiga Rival MPVs Planned – Family Cars

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has been ruling the compact MPV segment ever since its arrival in the market. The family car has always been favoured for its practicality, spacious interior and efficiency. In near future, there will be three new models to challenge the Ertiga’s dominance. The latter is currently available within the price range of Rs 8.35 lakh – Rs 12.79 lakh (ex-showroom). Here’re some key details of the upcoming Maruti Ertiga rival MPVs.

Citroen 7-Seater MPV

Citroen 7-seater SUV

Citroen is reportedly working on a new three-row model that will be based on the C3 hatchback. The carmaker will also bring in its 5-seater version that will put up against the compact SUVs. The new Citroen 7-seater MPV could be named C3 Aircross and it will be based on the Stellantis CMP architecture. While its base variant will take on the Maruti Ertiga, the higher trims will go up against the Kia Carens. Engine specifications of the model are still under the wraps. Though, it’s likely to come with the 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine that makes power worth 110bhp and 190Nm of torque. The lower variants could get the 1.0L naturally aspirated petrol motor with a manual gearbox. More details here…

Nissan 7-Seater MPV

Nissan MPV

Nissan India recently announced its plan to expand its product portfolio with 2 new SUVs, 1 new MPV and an all-new electric vehicle in the coming years. The plan outlines a new 7-seater MPV that will be based on Renault’s 7-seater Triber.  Similar to its donor sibling, the new Nissan MPV will underpin the CMF-A+ platform and come with the 1.0L 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol and 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine options. Both manual and CVT automatic gearboxes could be on offer. Some of its design elements and features could be borrowed from the Nissan Magnite. More details here…

Toyota Rumion

Toyota Rumion MPV

Toyota Kirloskar Motor had trademarked the ‘Rumion’ nameplate in India in 2021. While there is no official word on its India launch timeline, rumour has it that it might come sometime in 2023. It’s essentially the re-badged version of the Maruti Ertiga with a few design changes. The Toyota Rumion MPV might feature a differently designed front grille, headlamps and revised rear section. Under the hood, the new Toyota compact MPV will house the same 1.5L, 4-cylinder K15C Dualjet engine that powers the Ertiga. The motor makes a top power of 103bhp and a peak torque of 136Nm. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters. More details here…
