Nissan India to Launch Triber-Based 7-Seater MPV – Key Details

Nissan India plans to expand its UV (Utility Vehicle) product portfolio in the next couple of years. The Japanese automaker has already confirmed the X-Trail and Qashqai SUVs, which are currently in their testing phase. The Nissan X-Trail, which is reported to go on sale in mid 2023, will go head-to-head against the Toyota Fortuner. Now, the company has revealed that it will bring in a new 7-seater MPV that will be based on the Renault Tiber. The model will be built on the CMF-A+ platform.

Details of the new Nissan 7-seater MPV are still under the wraps. Though, we expect it to share its powertrains and features with the Renault Triber. The latter comes with the 1.0L, 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine that delivers a claimed power of 71bhp and 96Nm of torque. The carmaker might introduce the new MPV with the turbocharged petrol engine as well. Both manual and AMT gearboxes are expected to be on offer.

In terms of design, the new Nissan 7-seater MPV will look different from the Renault Tiber. Some of its design elements could be borrowed from the Nissan Magnite. Dimensionally, however, it will be similar to the Triber. Its feature kit is likely to include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, keyless entry, removable third row, push-button start, second row recline, roof-mounted AC vents for the middle and third row passengers, LED lighting, etc.

Talking about the upcoming Nissan X-Trail, the SUV will be made available with a 1.5L turbo petrol engine that can be had with either the mild hybrid or strong hybrid tech. While the mild hybrid version will make 163PS and get the 2WD system, the strong hybrid model will return 204PS and come with the 2WD and AWD options. The X-Trail will be offered with 5 and 7-seats configurations.
