2022 Maruti S-Cross – New Hybrid Tech, Turbo Power, More Mileage

Suzuki has been working on multiple new products for the European market. The plan outlines four major launches including the new-generation Swift hatchback, S-Cross crossover, Vitara SUV and Jimny off-road SUV. Reports suggest that all these models will be offered with hybrid powertrains. While the new S-Cross and Jimny are expected to arrive in India early next year, the new Swift might come sometime in 2024. Rumour has it that Maruti Suzuki is also considering the Vitara SUV for the Indian market.

The 2022 Maruti S-Cross will witness noticeable changes inside and out along with a new hybrid powertrain. Here, the crossover is expected to be offered with the existing 1.5L petrol engine that will be benefited with the stronger 48V hybrid technology. The naturally aspirated gasoline motor currently offers a peak power of 115bhp and 144Nm of torque.  This time around, the existing 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox could be replaced with a new 6-speed automatic unit. A 5-speed manual gearbox will be standard across the model lineup.

Rumour has it that the new 2022 Maruti S-Cross could one of the recipients of the updated BS6-compliant 1.5L DDiS diesel engine. The oil burner will be first introduced on the new-generation Vitara Brezza subcompact SUV that’s due for the early next year. The new diesel motor will also be offered on the updated XL6 and Ertiga MPVs. In global markets, the 2022 Suzuki S-Cross will be made available with a 1.4L Boosterjet turbo engine electrified with a 48-volt mild hybrid system.

Suzuki’s new hybrid system comprises a 48V lithium-ion battery, a 48V-12V converter and integrated starter generator (ISG). It’s relatively lighter and is claimed to offer more torque, 15% more fuel efficiency and up to 20% lower emissions. Globally, the new S-Cross will also be offered with the 4X4 AllGrip system.
