New-Gen Maruti Swift Development Starts For India – What To Expect?

Maruti Suzuki Swift has been a volume generator for the Indo-Japanese carmaker ever since its launch in 2005. Now, the hatchback is ready to enter into its fourth generation in the country. According a latest media report, the new-generation Maruti Swift (codenamed YED) will make global debut sometime next year and its India launch might happen in 2024. The carmaker has begun its development work and is reported “to have floated a Request for Quotation (RFQ) to potential suppliers. The new Maruti Swift is likely to underpin the modified version of the Heartect platform that’s designed using Ultra & Advanced High Strength Steels. The hatchback will also witness significant cosmetic changes and feature upgrades. Its front fascia could be updated with a larger radiator grille, revised bumper and newly-designed headlamps.

Other key changes might include new alloys, new ORVMs, pronounced side creases and re-designed taillamps. On the feature front, the new Maruti Swift could be equipped with a larger touchscreen infotainment system, connected car technology, a head-up display and new seat upholstery. Its interior layout is likely to remain unchanged.

If reports are to be believed, the 2022 Maruti Swift will have a stronger 48V hybrid system instead of the 12V mild hybrid technology. It will make the hatchback more fuel efficient than before. It will also make it comply with the upcoming emission standards. The new-generation model will also continue to come with the 1.2L K12 Dualjet petrol engine that’s good for 89bhp and 113bhp.

Globally, the new Swift will be offered with the 1.2L petrol hybrid and 1.4L turbo petrol engine options. For performing transmission duties, the hatchback will have a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT unit. Prices could be increased by up to Rs 40,000 – Rs 50,000. Currently, the Maruti Suzuki Swift costs between Rs 5.71 lakh – Rs 8.41 lakh (ex-showroom).
