Hyundai, Kia, MG To Launch New MPVs In India – Maruti Ertiga Rivals

The UV (Utility Vehicle) segment has been witnessing a constant growth when rest of the automotive industry observing a YoY (Year-on-Year) decline. In order to cash in on the surge in demand, car manufacturers have planned multiple new SUVs and MPVs across the segments. Talking about the MPVs, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has been dominating the segment ever since its launch in April 2012. The model entered into its second generation in 2018, which will be soon followed by a mid-life update. Car manufacturers like Hyundai, Kia and MG Motor are planning to challenge the dominance of the Ertiga in the compact MPV space. One must note that the official launch timeline of the new Hyundai, Kia and MG compact MPVs is yet to be revealed. Here’s a brief on the upcoming models.

The South Korean carmaker is working on an entry-level MPV for the Indian market. If reports are to be believed, the new Hyundai compact MPV could be based on the Creta’s platform. It might be offered with both petrol and diesel engines. While the petrol version is likely to get a 113bhp, 1.5L unit, the diesel will derive power from the 113bhp, oil burner.

New Kia Compact MPV

Kia India had announced its plan to foray into an all-segment in early 2022. It’s reported to be a compact 7-seater MPV based on the Seltos’ platform. The company has already revealed that its new model will offer “adequate space” for 7 occupants and carry an “affordable price” tag. While details of the new Kia 7-seater MPV are yet to be revealed, it’s reported to come with the 1.5L petrol and diesel engine options.

MG 360M MPV

New MG Compact MPV

The MG 360M mid-size 7-seater MPV made its India debut at the 2020 Auto Expo alongside the MG G10. While there is no official word on its India arrival, the model is likely to be placed against the Maruti Ertiga. It’s essentially the rebadged version of the China-spec Baojun 360. The MPV has been powered by a 1.5L petrol engine that’s good enough for 103bhp and 135Nm. A CVT automatic gearbox could be standard across the model lineup.
